Useful advice regarding driving in Crete. If you have chosen to hire a car to drive to the apartments or if you hire a car during your stay, you should be more careful than you normally are, especially if it's your first time driving in Crete. Road manners in Crete can be quite different compared to those you are used to. Overtaking on solid, double white lines is illegal, but it is very common in Crete, so you should be very careful when driving on blind bends or on the brow of a hill, because someone from the opposite direction may be heading your way. Cretan's usually don't follow the speed limits, so don't be surprised if you are going with the speed limit and other cars overpass or try to overpass you all the time. It is better if you move aside.
