Erodios apartments are conveniently located in the heart of the seaside town Kalives, in the Prefecture of Chania, on the north of Crete.
Kalives lies at the entrance of Souda Bay (the largest natural bay in Mediterranean Sea), 20 kilometers away from the city of Chania and 40 kilometers away from the city of Rethimno. It is a quiet and peaceful town, with about 1000 permanent residents. During summer it attracts lots of visitors, but it doesn't get overcrowded. So, it is the ideal location if you are seeking relaxing vacations by the sea. It is also an excellent base for excursions if you wish to explore the area and discover the beauty of Crete.
Kalives is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, while to its South
the imposing Lefka Ori (White mountains) offer an magnificent spectacle.
There are also two small rivers, Xidas, which crosses the town, and Kiliaris
at the west entrance of the town. You should also have a walk in the narrow
streets of the old-village. It is believed that the town owes its name
to the Arabs who invaded the region in 828ad and built "kalives", that
is huts, to live in.
The focal points of Kalives are the main square, with the old plane tree, and the lovely beaches with the clear blue sea. There are several taverns and restaurants in Kalives where you can taste local specialties and the famous drink of Crete "tsikoudia or raki". There are also a few traditional "cafenia" and some music-cafe-bars, yet don't expect to find big clubs or music bars in the town. Visiting Kalives allows you to experience the hospitality and generosity of the locals.
